"One of the aspects that is so amazing about his run (besides getting his tires over the edge above mile-deep sheer drops) is that two years prior, Michèle Mouton had won the hill climb in an Audi. The next year, Bobby Unser won again in another Audi and did so while setting the course record with a run of 11:09:22 minutes. On July 11, 1987, Walter Röhrl again piloted an Audi quattro to victory up Pike's Peak, and again set a course record.
